Built in 1953, the main part of Zhongshan Hall is a gathering space. It is now a tourist shop area, but there are still old relics in the rain shelter at the entrance. The design of the rain shelter of Zhongshan Hall and the second-generation office wooden bungalows that have been demolished were built at the same time. Its RC-made foreign windmills, pillars and roof parapets were designed to preserve the Hualien Sugar Factory in the 1950 period (Republic of China 40 Years) of the building value. All the major events inside the sugar factory in the old Zhongshan Hall were here, which was equivalent to an auditorium and a venue for speech contests. Movies are shown every Thursday, and people from the surrounding settlements will take the small train from the farm to the sugar factory to Zhongshantang to watch the movie.
For the children of the employees who lived in the sugar factory in the early years, the common childhood memory of everyone is that the main entertainment of the holiday is to come to the Zhongshan Hall to "watch a show." In the past, Zhongshan Hall would not only show movies, but also have various gathering places, such as the graduation ceremony of Sugar Factory Primary School (Dajin Elementary School) or the celebration ceremony held on National Day Double Ten, and Bai Xue volunteers of the National Army at that time The team will perform there. For example, when there is an event or a movie, everyone will go there to watch the show. Later, with the popularization of television in the 1970s, the cinema in the sugar factory gradually declined.
Today’s Zhongshantang site is one of the most beautiful spaces in Hualien Sugar Factory. It is currently a Huatang product exhibition center, selling various products of Taiwan Sugar Company, and surrounding small farmers or brand products, providing tourists and surrounding people with a good The merchandise purchase field also created the best merchandise sales base and cosmetic appearance for the Hualien Sugar Factory.
