The director’s dormitory of the Hualien Sugar Factory was built in 1949. It is the most important building in the sugar factory dormitory complex. It is located on the southeast side of the Hualien Sugar Factory. It belongs to the same area as the deputy director’s dormitory. Beside the dormitory it is the Dahe ordinary high school during the Japanese occupation(now Dajin elementary school).
The building materials used in the dormitory of the Hualien Sugar Factory Director are said to come from the Japanese-style dormitory where the Shou Factory was demolished. The dormitory of the sugar factory is similar to the dormitory of the deputy director, which means it might be the dormitory of the director of the same level in the Shou factory.
The director’s dormitory of the Hualien Sugar Factory is located in the senior dormitory of the Hualien Sugar Factory. It is different from other dormitory groups that in addition to the structure of eaves, rainbags, and diagonal struts, there is a wide courtyard at the front and the back to plant tall trees and flowers. There is a pool on the left which is an independent and spacious space with a landscaped of a Japanese garden. This dormitory can give you a glimpse of the factory's management and management methods and the class of workers and daily life style at that time： the class was relatively strict, and the supervisors had more resources and better quality.
