In Taisho 10 year (around 1921), The Taiwan Development CO., LTD. built a 550 tonnes heavy sugar factory on Shang Yamato, hiring a lot of farmers from the surrounding area to do the tasks of sugarcane plantation and sugar production. However, during that time, Japanese government banned the public to have their own belief, the workers had to secretly place the Earth God to pray for safety and good harvest for the sugarcane plantation. Around the end of World War II (between 1944-1945), US army bombed the sugar factory and an unexploded bomb was found inside the big chimney. Later on, even more unexploded bombs were found inside the factory. The workers inside the factory and farmers from the surrounding all said it was the Earth God that protected the sugar factory. After the factory recovered, farmers felt grateful for having the protection given from the Earth God to them and the factory, so they built a little temple on the empty area in sugarcane field which is behind the sugar factory to worship the Earth God, and maintained a well attendance from people. After the factory transitioned to a tourism sugar factory, a small park was built beside the Guangfu river and also a bigger and newer temple of the Earth God, serving both the old Earth God and the new one.
