In the 70s and 80s of the Republic Era, as Taiwan’s economics developed, human resources all moved to urban city. Sugar industry is a labour-intensive industry because harvesting sugarcane needs human labour. What happened if there is no human resource？Machine will then take over the task of harvesting. The machines will harvest more sugarcane as possible, therefore they will dig deeper into the ground and the more soil will come up. Since soil in the east contains a lot of stones, the machines are often easy to be damaged when the stones come in. Silt will be disposed beforehand, therefore when workers see stone they will pick it up and this is rewarded. Since picking up stones is rewarded, workers that manage the sugarcanes will work hard to pick up stones whenever they spot them.
