From the Japanese-occupied period until now, all sugar factory employees will collectively call all the railways within the factory area as Gounei (in Taiwanese dialect, or the internal line) line。 In Taisho 10 years (which is 1921), Ensuiko Sugar Refining Co., Ltd. started to lay Dahe factory’s railroad. According to the 1977 HuaLien sugar factory’s railroad plan documentation, factory’s interior railroad gauge is 762 mm; there is also a 30 kg three-line railway, having gauge 1067 mm and 762 mm. The existing gauge relics are all 1067 mm, mainly rebuilt for Taiwan Railwaty Corporation Eastern Railway Widening Project to be in line with Taiwan Railway Administration. However, because of the rapid development of the highway transportation and other factors, the era of using railway to transport sugarcane raw material came to an end. In replacement it comes economic highway transportation system.
