Yuemei Sugar Factory is located at Houli District, Taichung City and was founded in 1909. In 1999, due to the changes of economic environment, it ceased to squeeze sugar and has transformed itself into a tourism sugar factory. Currently, the sugar factory preserves massive sugar manufacturing machines, characteristic architecture structure, and the only chimney tunnel and sugar factory chimney of Taiwan.
The factory is filled with historical heritage and its historical space is being well utilized. The warehouse that was built with beam mounts made just with cypress and no pillars were renovated into a store selling Taiwan Sugar products and gourmet items and souvenirs from other places. Waterside trail, carp pond, precious hundred-year tundra black pines and ginkgo, hundred-year camphor trees, and exhibition on old agricultural items are also available here. It is a great place for a school field trip or family recreational activity.
