“Sewage Ecological Processing Pond” is a secret attraction in Hualian Sugar Factory. In 2007, in coordination with government policies, the then deputy manager Lin Shiang-chen cooperated with the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau in transforming the past soot sedimentation basin of the sugar factory into an ecological pond with beautiful scenery in which water birds could reside by purifying the sewage of the park 4 times with water plants.
This creates a natural circular ecological area. Water plants (water hyacinth, oriental cattail, paper reed, and ginger lily) were planted to purify the pond water. In the future, nectar plants are planned to be planted here to attract bees and butterflies, making the ecosystem here more diverse and complete.
