It was named “Yilienyuan” in 1959. However, when they made the plaque for this gazebo in 1985, they wrote the wrong character “lien.” This beautiful mistake made the name of this gazebo as beautiful as the pond ripples.
It was originally just a small pond during the Japanese Colonial Era and became a pond of two after Americans bombed this place during WW2. This leaves a legacy and has made it a must-visit attraction when visiting Hualien Sugar Factory.
