Wooden caravans were transferred from Taitung Sugar Factory to Hualien Sugar Factory in the 1980’s and have remained in great shape after years of maintenance. It is worth mentioning that after research by experts, according to the vehicle registration archive of TRA depot, they discovered that two 10C160 type old caravans that are only 6.3 meters long may have been manufactured by Kisha Seizo Co., Ltd. from Japan and Taipei Railway Workshop of TRA.
Given that this model of caravan was manufactured in great number in the early days, it is hard to identify when they were manufactured. One thing for certain is that this model of caravan was first manufactured in 1903. More importantly, even TRA failed to preserve this model of wooden caravans preserved by Hualien Sugar Factory. We now only know that only Taitung Sugar Factory has eight more of the same model of caravans, making them extremely valuable in Taiwan.
