Xinying Sugar Factory’s Japanese-style Dormitory is one of the most well-preserved Japanese-style buildings in Taiwan and was designated by Tainan City Government as a historical building. Some filmmakers also took shots here.
“Employee Dormitory” was originally the dormitory of the supervisor of the Agricultural Affairs Supervision Section of 4th Branch, Taiwan Sugar Corp. after WW2 and was later the dormitory for the factory director and deputy supervisor.“First Class Dormitory” was for the factory director or deputy factory director.
“Second Class Dormitory” was originally the dormitory of the Ensuiko Sugar Refining Co., Ltd president in the Japanese Colonial Era. It later became the dormitory of the general factory director of Xinying Main Factory, the activity center of the Women’s Society of Xinying General Factory Director, and was eventually rebuilt into the Second Class Dormitory.
Due to its tranquil environment, being surrounded by flowers and trees, large yard, covert location and being highly secured, not only former president Lee Teng-hui stayed here several times, but former president Chen Shui-bian also rested here. This place was later known as the “president suite.”
