Shanhua Sugar Factory is located at Shanhua District, Tainan City. It used to be called “Wanli Sugar Factory” and was renamed with its current name in 1961. It is now one of only two sugar factories, the other one being Huwei Sugar Factory of Yunlin County, that still manufactures sugar in Taiwan.
It mainly produces light brown sugar. Shanhua Sugar Factory is connected with the memory of maturing for many people in its adjacent towns. Trees have created shade in the factory, creating a tranquil environment. A shop selling Taiwan Sugar products and a reception center is also available in the sugar factory. It is the best place for cooling down on summer nights, enjoying the ice treats of Taiwan Sugar, or having fun with families and children on holidays. Neighboring Shantang Elementary School also has beautiful installations and is a place where many photographers like to take pictures.
