Suantou Sugar Factory was built in 1906 and was once the third largest sugar factory in Taiwan during the Japanese Colonial Era.
It started its sugar manufacturing operation after being flooded and severely destroyed by Typhoon Nari in 2001. Nowadays, Suantou Sugar Factory has developed in the tourism and recreational direction based on its combination of Taiwan sugar railway, nostalgic Japanese dormitory buildings, and Baroque style buildings. Various kinds of wagons can still be seen on its scattered railway tracks.
Why not rent a bike and travel around the sugar factory to experience the leisure atmosphere of this simple town.
